Ace Hardware maintains its company headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois. This year alone, Ace Hardware promises to fill 30,000 new positions in a mixture of full-time, part-time and seasonal employees. Ace Hardware is the country’s largest retail hardware cooperative with over 4,300 locally owned stores across the United States. There is an Ace Hardware within 15 minutes of nearly 75% of all Americans. There are jobs available in the retail, distribution, and corporate areas of the company.
With the majority of American workers transitioning to working remotely, there is an increased need for companies like Cisco. With 274 offices in 96 locations, Cisco is a technology company headquartered in San Jose, California, in the center of Silicon Valley. Cisco develops, manufactures, and sells networking hardware and software as well as telecommunications equipment. Privately-held convenience store 7-Eleven is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. They have announced up to 20,000 new jobs nationwide in response to increased consumer spending on things like household essentials. 7-Eleven also offers delivery through its 7NOW delivery app. These new positions will be for shelf stockers, store cleaners, and for mobile order fulfillment and delivery.
Amazon is headquartered in Seattle, Washington. As a result of the increase in online shopping during the pandemic, Amazon announced that it will add 100,000 jobs nationwide. Amazon also announced that it would increase pay for United States workers by $2-per-hour. Only one short month after announcing the large increase in jobs, Amazon had fulfilled all of the new positions.
However, Amazon again announced that it would create another 75,000 jobs. Amazon also sent out this invitation to anyone who has lost their job as a result of the coronavirus lockdown:
“We know many people have been economically impacted as jobs in areas like hospitality, restaurants, and travel are lost or furloughed as part of this crisis, and we welcome anyone out of work to join us at Amazon until things return to normal and their past employer is able to bring them back.”
Amazon is cognizant of the fact that people may be wary of working during a pandemic. As a result, they have undertaken measures to protect warehouse workers, including temperature checks, purchasing hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes, and distributing masks.
There has certainly been no shortage of negative news this year, with COVID-19 wreaking havoc on the health and mental well-being of the world as well as having a massive impact on the business world.
